The U-bend sediment trap on the base of the tube means that the brew is not drawn from directly beneath the tube when siphoning, which prevents the direct uptake of yeast sediment when siphoning. Instead the clearer beer, wine, or cider is drawn from above the yeast sediment, meaning cleaner and more effective siphoning with less hassle.
