Young's American Beer Kit - American Oaked Rum Ale - 6.5%

America has always been famous for its mass produced and uninspiring lager style beers but in recent decades a quiet revolution has been unfolding. Two enormous breweries still dominate the US beer market but today there are some 2000 craft and microbreweries in the United States producing amazing flavourful and aromatic craft beers, they have reinvented beer and inspired new styles taking beer flavour and aroma to unprecedented levels. This revolution has spread far and wide, even the conservative British beer culture has changed this past five years as a direct response to the America craft beer scene.

Young's developed this range to bring the best of American craft brewing to the UK. The approach is simple, based on the same philosophy as the American craft brewing industry only the best and freshest ingredients are used, not sacrificing quality over cost. What really sets this range apart is the use of specially formulated dried yeast actually sourced from an American craft brewery, and wonderful flavoursome liquid malt extracts with progressive style hops - skillfully combined to bring you a truly inspired range of premium quality American craft beer kits.

American Oaked Rum Ale

Barrel aged beers have become increasingly popular in the craft beer fraternity and by beer aficionados the world over. Beer aged or served from wood is not a recent phenomenon by any means; beer was kept in wooden casks and vats until the advent of first aluminium and then stainless steel casks. The big difference between that and the barrel aging technique is the use of barrels from another drinks industry to add different character to the type of beer, sherry, bourbon, scotch, rum, wine and other barrels have all been used to great effect. Part od the art of barrel aging is creating beer that has both the character of the barrel and the character of the original beer.

We've melded together the character of a strong American ale, heavily toasted  oak barrel and Rum to create a triumphantly aromatic and complex beer that suits contemplative drinking studying the myriad of overlaid flavours and aromas.

Our beer pour a deep ruby red with a lovely creamy fluffy head. Oak and deep toffee caramel dominate the aroma of this beer, there are hints of rum that promise further delights. On the palate this beer has a complex array of flavours, al at once it's malty, has a strong vanilla and oak character and has a subtle sweet rum character that overarches the beer and holds it all together, delicious.
